  • Storms hit soggy Louisiana, camper killed

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Adam Kinslow carries a roll of police tape as he walks past one of the trees on the Capitol grounds uprooted by an early-morning storm Thursday, May 15, 2008, in Austin, Texas. Severe storms overnight in Austin knocked down several large trees at the state Capitol and blew out windows in the dome. Severe storms with damaging winds and possible tornadoes pounded the South, killing at least one person in Louisiana and shattering windows at the Texas Capitol.

  • Firefighters get upper hand on Fla. wildfire

Dry, windy conditions fuel several wildfires along the state?s Atlantic coast.Firefighters made major gains against a wildfire that has charred thousands of acres along the Atlantic coast as police questioned a man seen tossing a Molotov cocktail into nearby woods.

  • Myanmar death toll estimate jumps

Internally displaced people eat at a relief centre near Dedaye, in the Irrawaddy Delta, in the Irrawaddy Delta May 14, 2008. At least 100,000 people are thought to have died in the May 2 cyclone and storm surge in the Irrawaddy delta, a death toll that could rise dramatically if survivors do not get access to food, clean water and medicine in the next few days, experts say. REUTERS/Sstringer (MYANMAR)The Red Cross on Wednesday boosted its estimate of the cyclone death toll in Myanmar to as many as 128,000 ? a much higher figure than the government tally.

  • Rebuilding unlikely in Okla. town

A neighborhood in Picher, Okla., is pictured Monday, May 12, 2008, as cleanup continues after Saturday's tornado. No government money will be awarded for rebuilding any of the 114 homes leveled by a deadly tornado that tore through one of the nation's most polluted areas, state and federal officials said Tuesday on a tour of the region.

  • Cars are deadly during tornadoes

A demolished car rests near the wreckage of a feed store destroyed by a tornado near Seneca, Missouri, May 12, 2008. Tornadoes killed at least 21 people and injured hundreds as they ripped through the central and southeastern United States over the weekend, destroying homes, overturning cars and downing trees and power lines. REUTERS/Mark Schiefelbein (UNITED STATES)Nearly half of the 21 people killed by a tornado that smashed parts of Oklahoma and Missouri over the weekend died in cars, troubling experts.
