Dinner, entertainment, door prizes and the great bargains of a silent auction for $10.00? Better believe it because it’s all happening Friday night, April 27, at Pasta and Pops, the annual fundraiser for the El Dorado High School Music program.
For $10.00 ($7.00 for students and children) you get spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, a drink and dessert, a sneak preview of scenes from the upcoming musical, Crazy for You, a performance by the award winning Jazz Band and single act performances. Raffle tickets for a high end computer system from PCSense will be on sale with the drawing to be held at the Spring Concert. The festivities run from 6pm to 9pm in the small gym at El Dorado High School.
The music education program, which includes the marching band, concert band, jazz band, color guard, drum line and chorale group, is supported by the school system. Most of the funding for the extra activities – the public performances, appearances, competitions etc comes from the community. Last year’s budget was very high because of the need to replace worn out uniforms. The community responded and 94% of the budget came from donations and fundraising. In a typical year the community provides 80 to 90% of the funding. The money is used for instruments, music, uniforms, transportation to various competitions, food, sound equipment etc.
The concert band received ratings of excellent in it’s last two outings at The Delta and Heritage festivals and the jazz band got a bronze plaque for its performance at the Heritage Music Festival.
