American River Conservancy and American Whitewater, both non-profit river conservation organizations, will feature a whitewater rodeo, downriver race, slalom races, live music, dinner, an auction and more. Fun for the whole family. Bring a friend or better yet, volunteer. This years event is in memory of Jeff Ellis who died in a kayaking accident in the year 2003. From 9:00 am. to 11:00 pm. Sat. and 9:00 am. to 6:00 pm. on Sun. Saturday: White water rodeo/booths/crafters at Chili Bar, Boardercross race at Henningson Park in Lotus & dinner, dance & auction in Coloma 6-11pm. Weary California firefighters braced Sunday for another heat wave in the next few days as they battled to bring two major blazes threatening towns along the central coast under control.
A new climate model estimates that by 2100 high temperatures for once-in-a-generation heat waves will rise twice as fast as everyday average temperatures.
