The American River Festival includes points for the Sierra Freestyle Championship and the Sierra Cup Series.
The 24th annual American River Festival, dedicated to river conservation, will include: a Fri evening film premier at the River Store, Whitewater Rodeo, Wildwater race, Slalom race, Banshee River Board demos, dinner/dance with "Live Music", auction, raffle, booths, and other activities. Admission is parking fees only and each separate event location at various Coloma area parks can be found at our website. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the American River Conservancy, American Canoe Association, Friends of the River and American Whitewater, all are non-profit agencies committed to river conservation. Weary firefighters got no rest during the holiday weekend as a pair of out-of-control wildfires roared across the landscape along California's Central Coast at opposite ends of the arid Los Padres National Forest.
A tropical storm dubbed Bertha has formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean off Africa's coast and is heading west towards the Caribbean, the National Hurricane Center said Thursday.
