Sacramento musicians, Flowers of the Nile, will be sharing an intimate evening of Egyptian classical music.
"Flowers of the Nile, based in Sacramento, California, is a duo playing Middle Eastern music, specializing in classic and folkloric Egyptian music from the great composers of the 20th century. Philip Gabriel, from Egypt, plays the oud (Arabic lute) and sings; Cynthia Rutherford, a California native, plays Egyptian tabla and other percussion instruments. Audiences all over California have enjoyed the band's unique arrangements of this captivating music at dance and international festivals, theatrical and educational presentations, parties, and restaurants. They are frequently joined by professional bellydancers as well as other musicians on instruments such as keyboard, percussion, and violin. Their CD, "Egyptian Classics", was released in January 2008."
