Parents are welcome to attend our monthly parent education evening filled with information essential to raising healthy children, and improving your parenting skills. Presented by Gena Cahill, supported by EDPPP, a fully licensed preschool and member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and a non-profit parent co-op 7:00 p.m. - 9:0p.m. El Dorado Parent Participation Preschool, 2556 Ray Lawyer Drive, Placerville.   • New Orleans watches as Gustav nears Jamaica

    Two men carry the coffin of one out of eight people who died in a landslide caused by Hurricane Gustav in Santo Domingo on Wednesday.Tropical Storm Gustav surged toward renewed hurricane force on Thursday as it drove toward Jamaica, while many miles away, New Orleans watched it with a nervous eye.


  • Big Easy faces evacuation as Gustav looms

    In this satellite image provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Tropical Storm Gustav moves northwest over Haiti on Wednesday.National Guard troops stood ready and batteries and water bottles sold briskly as the New Orleans area watched a storm march across the Caribbean on the eve of Hurricane Katrina's third anniversary.


  • Tropical Storm Hanna forms in Atlantic
    The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Hanna has formed northeast of the northern Leeward Islands in the Atlantic.
  • Floods maroon over a million in India

    Residents wade through the overflowing Koshi river in Sunsari, 250 miles southeast of Katmandu, Nepal, on Tuesday. The swollen river burst its banks just north of the border with India, and changed course to flow through a fresh channel around 75 miles to the east. Indian officials rushed soldiers and air force helicopters Wednesday to flood-ravaged parts of northern India to provide aid to the more than 1 million people stranded by a surging river.


  • Winter forecast: 'Numb's the word!'
