At 1100 pm edt Friday Aug. 29, 2008 the center of Hurricane Gustav was located about 25 miles west southwest of Little Cayman Island and 330 miles east-southeast of the western tip of Cuba. Gustav is moving toward the northwest near 10 mph and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph with higher gusts. Gustav is a Category One hurricane on the saffir-simpson scale. Strengthening is forecast during the next two days and Gustave could become a major hurricane as it approaches western Cuba according to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center. (AP Photo/US NAVY)AP - The hurricane bearing down on the Gulf Coast could be a test for the country's wireless carriers, which faced criticism and a regulatory push after Hurricane Katrina took out networks.
