MSNBC.com: Weather
  • Pacific hurricane strengthens off Mexico
Hurricane Norbert strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane over the Pacific Ocean late Tuesday, and forecasters said it could hit the southern Baja California Peninsula by the weekend.
  • Tropical storm hits Mexico's gulf coast
Tropical Storm Marco roared ashore on Mexico's gulf coast with near-hurricane force winds, prompting a shutdown of some oil platforms and forcing the evacuation of some 3,000 people.
  • Drought has Aussie farmers trading water

For years, Australian farms have struggled with drought, including this land in 2002 near a dry reservoir 285 miles northwest of Sydney. In Australia, the world's driest inhabited continent, there is simply not enough water to go around. So farmers there rely on a unique trading system to make the most of every drop.

  • Study: Arctic stormier as Earth warms
The Arctic has become more stormy in the past 50 years due to the warming climate, which in turn has quickened the pace of drifting sea ice, a new NASA study finds.
  • Environmental damage heavy after Ike

Petty Officer 2nd Class Brad Lindsey inspects a container at a pollution site on Goat Island, Texas, Thursday, Sept. 25. Teams have been working throughout the Houston-Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas, areas to identify, assess and remediate pollution sites since the passing of Hurricane Ike. Hurricane Ike's winds and massive waves destroyed oil platforms, tossed storage tanks and punctured pipelines.
