El Dorado County, CA August 11, 2004 - As El Dorado County continues to grow by
leaps and bounds, a couple of Internet veterans had decided that it was time to
for us to have our own local section of the web.
The goal was to provide local information that could be
found without having to dig through pages upon pages of no relevant
information. The owner, Noah Schwartzman of Shingle Springs, comments: “El Dorado is such a great
county. I really wanted a site to help generate more community interest… a site
containing what you would like to know about local news, events, and commerce.”
In the beginning, it
was a simple directory of local businesses web sites, along with a few other
features such as weather and movie times. However, with the redesign launched
earlier this year, ElDoradoGuide.com has blossomed into a full blown portal
that many have chosen to use as their internet “homepage”. Directing visitors
to local interest news articles and a customizable weather page are just two of
the new features. There have been many
upgrades to the site, such as school closing alerts, enhanced movie section,
online ticket sales, and more.
And what of the old
directory including only local websites? It has also been reworked to include
businesses that don’t have a web presence, allowing them to offer coupons and
promotions. The restaurants have developed into their own channel of the site,
with offerings such as menus and photos. And maps to all of the listings have
proved helpful in navigating our ever expanding neighborhood. Truly a well
deserved overhaul!
So what does this
mean for El Dorado
County as a whole? Well,
if you are like me, you probably search online first before making larger
purchases or to research on services you are in need of. In America, more often than not, this
means tax dollars being siphoned out of the area as many are making purchases
based on who they find while searching the internet. Sites such as
ElDoradoGuide.com can be a useful tool in helping to bring spending back to the
community.
If you are
interested in surfing locally, a few other web sites of interest are
Placerville.info, HistoricHwy49.com and Visit-ElDorado.com (operated by The El
Dorado County Visitors Authority).
