November 25, 2004 – Great tips on how to choose the right gift, and how
to get it quickly.
With a great twist of humor, Seinfeld coined the phrase “re-gifting” while
demonstrating how real people get rid of those gifts they wished they’d never
received. Funny to watch, but
horrifying to experience.
Thankfully, you can banish the “re-gift” curse! Before you embark on your
next gift quest, give these tips some forethought:
- Always make sure that the
gift you buy is going to be useful to the recipient
- Judge the importance of the
occasion before deciding the gift
- Dare to be different. Let
your gift be different from the other gifts.
- Keep a track of what your
near and dear ones want. It always helps!
- While buying decoration
items, be sure that you know the interiors of the house it is to be gifted in!
Your best bet, a gift certificate to a gallery or furnishing store.
- Research current trends,
you may be surprised at what is popular.
Yes, taking the time to do the research may cut into the amount of shopping
hours you are willing to spend. But we have more excellent tips on how to get
your shopping done more quickly.
Avoid the crowds. Avoid most mall crowds by arriving at stores just as they
open on weekday mornings. Take advantage of the very late shopping hours
offered by many malls, when crowds may be lighter. Look for smaller mini-malls
and town centers which generally have more charisma and unique choices.
Shop online. Avoid crowds by shopping
online. Look for local websites for added charm.
Buy in bulk. Save time by buying
generic gifts (for teachers, neighbors, co-workers, etc.) in bulk. As long as
the people don't know each other you may give them all the same gift.
Gift in an envelope. Many online
stores offer gift certificates for their products. Look for online gift
certificate malls, such as the one found at www.ElDoradoGuide.com. Gift
certificates for spas, restaurants, or theatres make an excellent gift.
To make sure that you don’t
have to take advantage of the dreaded “re-gift” practice, share this advice
with those who might have you on their list. They’ll be glad you did.
